What is Natural Childbirth?
I was just notified that one of my comments about natural birth was deleted on Facebook. I am guessing it is because I had included a link after my signature. I guess I am still learning as sometimes, it is fine, others it is not to post a link in a comment.
Anyway, the post was titled “ALL BIRTHS ARE NATURAL”
Here was my delightful answer:
Hi. I disagree with your statement ” While all births are natural, regardless of the procedure used…”. It seems to me like you are trying to appeal to everyone including OB/GYNs who are pushing cesareans and interventions to an astounding cesarean rate of over 30%. Humans are the only “animals” in the creation doing cesareans, oxytocin perfusions, episiotomies, etc on themselves and other animals. These are not naturally occurring phenomenon, these are interventions.
I am not saying these interventions are not sometimes necessary. I am saying they are highly overused and far from being “natural”.
I have delivered over 3700 babies and have a lifetime cesarean rate of 10,1%.

Do you agree or disagree?
Oxford defines natural birth as: a vaginal birth, especially without medical intervention such as pain-relieving medication.
There was an article about a star who gave birth naturally. The article went on to say that she had to wait for the epidural to wear off before she was able to push.
Is this still a natural birth to you if you have the epidural?
I am not judging or shaming anyone on anything. I am just curious to know what a natural birth is for you?
There is no right or wrong way to give birth. The most important is to have the baby in a manner that is safe for both mother and baby.
